SAFETY
First and foremost, as a beginner who’s just getting started, safety is imperative. Many beginners get discouraged and ultimately fail because they push themselves too hard to start and experience an injury or physical set back. While others don’t push themselves enough, or in the right way which can limit the benefits and that becomes discouraging as well. Exercise is a powerful tool that can help you in a lot of ways but, if it’s not dosed properly for each individual’s specific needs, like any medicine, it can have adverse effects.
At Dedham Health we offer all our members free personal training with degreed exercise physiologist (experts) who know the human body and how to keep you safe all while helping you achieve your specific and unique desired outcomes.
EDUCATION
As a beginner you are typically motivated to start by your desired outcome or change. You want to lose weight or feel better or look a certain way. If you understand how best to achieve those outcomes you are more likely to buy into the process and reach your goals.
At Dedham Health we don’t just tell you what to do. We take the time to understand what your goals are and the motivation behind them. Once we understand your goals we put together a clear concise game plan to achieve those goals. We explain the process. We create a realistic expectation and time line. We encourage, motivate and educate you on exactly how to reach your goals. When you understand exactly what’s required and why it’s necessary you are much more likely to execute. Your buy in will be much stronger. We don’t give you the fish we teach you how to fish.
CONVENIENCE
Any facility you decide to join or belong to must be convenient in 2 ways. It must be convenient to get to. And it must be convenient to utilize. It can’t be over crowded or have time limits placed on equipment. It must be convenient for you to do the things you want to do during the times you want to do them. If it’s not convenient it’s too easy to not go.
At Dedham Health we are designed for your convenience. Unfortunately we can’t move our club closer to where you live but we do work hard to eliminate any of the issues or concerns that typically make it hard to achieve your goals. No lines, no time limits, long hours of operation and most importantly, as we mentioned above free personal training.
VARIETY
One of the most overlooked benefits of a large multifaceted health club is the variety it offers. In so many ways variety plays a key role in reaching your goals. There are 3 components that define a properly prescribed exercise routine.
1. Strength Training
2. Cardio
3. Stretching
At Dedham Health we have a huge variety of options for each key component. The reason variety is so important is twofold. The first is obvious. If you don’t like the options you have for cardio for example then you’re simply less likely to do it. If, like most facilities you only have a bike or a treadmill or an elliptical to choose from and you don’t enjoy any of those well that’s a problem. If you have more options like a pool or a basketball court or tennis or racquetball or a jogging track you are obviously more likely to find something you like to do and therefore more likely to do it.
The other key to variety is the “shock value”. So many people get started on a routine and end up doing the same thing over and over and over again. This leads to mental boredom and physical stagnation. The more you do 1 thing the easier it becomes and the less you get out of it. For instance if you jog on the treadmill day after day your body gets used to it, it’s not as challenging and you get diminished results. But if you mix up your cardio routine and swim one day, play basketball the next and jump rope on another your body does not get bored and you’re more likely to stay mentally stimulated as well. Obviously the same holds true for strength training and stretching as well. The more options you have the more likely you are to reach your goals and maintain them over a longer period of time.
